About

The Putter Studio Philosophy Do what you want

Creativity flourishes when we have the time, materials and freedom to play. At Putter Studio, you work at your own pace on projects of your choosing. Within a short time, new studio members are often astounded by how much they can accomplish creatively as they relax into the process. Some people like to chat while they work, others prefer to put on their headphones. You’re supported by others who are doing the same — focused, free, and inspiring.

“You’re supported by others who are doing the same — focused, free, and inspiring”

Andrew Putter has spent decades setting up spaces that support independent creativity.

Andrew is a well-known South African creative in his own right, with a long history of working across art, design, and collaborative cultural projects.

Over the past three decades, his creative work has spanned fields as wide-ranging as event design, book design, lighting, fashion, music, and digital media.

Andrew’s art has been exhibited around the world, including at the Venice Biennale and the Havana Biennial.

His work is held in major collections such as the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, the Museum of Modern Art in Helsinki, the South African National Gallery, and Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town.

The legendary creative studio he has put together for teenagers brings together everything he’s learned from years in the field — all to support young people in making things freely and with confidence.
